Jason Collins is a Criminal Investigator with the Placer County District Attorney's Office, where he assists local agencies with human trafficking investigations. Prior to joining the District Attorney's Office, he served 28 years with the Sacramento Police Department, including 20 years as a detective. Since 2017, Investigator Collins has specialized in commercial sexual exploitation investigations, focusing on crimes involving human trafficking, pimping, pandering of both adults and children. During his law enforcement career, he also served as a Task Force Officer with the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force and the Sacramento Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, investigating offenders involved in the sexual exploitation and trafficking of minors.
DA Investigator Collins serves as the course coordinator for the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation's 40-hour Human Trafficking Investigation Course, which is attended by law enforcement professionals from across California. He has been qualified as an expert witness in both state and federal court, providing testimony on human trafficking, pimping, and pandering. In addition to his investigative responsibilities, DA Investigator Collins works closely with multidisciplinary partners, nonprofit organizations, and victim service providers to strengthen investigations, improve victim outcomes, and advance training and education throughout California.
