Detective Daniel Ortiz is a 25-year law enforcement veteran assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division of the East Hartford Police Department, Connecticut. He previously served eight years in the department's Special Investigations Unit, investigating crimes against children, sexual assaults, missing persons, and human trafficking. Detective Ortiz is a member of the Connecticut Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and serves as a digital forensic examiner with the Connecticut Center for Digital Investigations (CDI), a 13-town regional digital forensics laboratory. His work focuses on mobile and cloud-based digital forensics, child exploitation investigations, and trauma-informed investigative practices. Throughout his career, Detective Ortiz has collaborated extensively with state and federal partners, including Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the U.S. Attorney's Office, as well as child advocacy centers and victim-support organizations. His investigative work has contributed to significant state and federal convictions in child exploitation cases. He also serves as a Child Protection Advisory Committee (CPAC) board member with the National Child Protection Task Force (NCPTF) and an Ambassador with Protecting the Guardian, supporting first responder wellness and suicide prevention. Detective Ortiz has previously presented at the 2025 Dallas Crimes Against Children Conference (Dallas, TX) and the 2025 Techno Security & Digital Forensics Conference (San Diego, CA).
