Detective Brian Lacey is assigned to the El Cajon Police Department's Family Protection Unit in California, where he investigates sexual assault, elder abuse, crimes against children, and technology-facilitated exploitation. He is a member of the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. His investigations regularly involve mobile device analysis, app-based communications, and digital evidence. Detective Lacey previously served five years with the Idaho State Police as a trooper, and Collision Reconstructionist. Most recently, since being hired by the El Cajon Police Department in 2023, Detective Lacey has served as a Drug Recognition Expert. These roles emphasized structured evidence analysis, observation, and articulation of findings. He works to help detectives translate both quantitative and qualitative data into clear investigative findings and defensible documentation, particularly for agencies operating without large specialized units.
