Helen Weathers

Lieutenant-Criminal Investigations Division, South Fulton County Police Department
Helen A. Weathers is the Crime Scene Supervisor for South Fulton Police Department in metro Atlanta, GA. She is a Georgia POST certified Police Instructor, Georgia POST certified Crime Scene Technician, California POST certified 911 Emergency Communications and has a BS in Sports Medicine from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. She has previously worked for Santa Barbara Police, Santa Monica Police, Gwinnett County Police and Fulton County Police departments. She worked for 6 years under the Department of Defense as a Forensic Subject Matter Expert. In her tenure under DoD, she worked for the Combined Explosives Exploitation Cell (CEXC) in Afghanistan processing IED related material for forensics. She was the first US Forensic Expert to testify in an Afghan Supreme Court Trial where a family of 3 brothers and a father were accused of making bombs that killed US soldiers. She also worked in Clarksburg, WV at the DoD ABIS facility doing QA/QC work on latent prints recovered from globally collected IED related material. For the past several years while at Fulton County Police, Helen is using her past experience to expand the capabilities of the Forensic Crime Scene Unit by adding cyber/digital evidence collection. She has been instrumental in Fulton County's acquisition of new technological tools to gather digital evidence for the purposes of streamlining investigations and preserving the integrity of computer/mobile related evidence to aid in criminal prosecution. She is now the Crime Scene Supervisor for a new Department that was established in March of 2018.
